Nostradamus has predicted:

Beyond the Alps,
the French Army will repel the Italians

According to my own method of interpretation,
only french lines in dark blue will be analysed and interpreted

QuatrainV-20

Delà les Alpes grand'armée passera,
Un peu devant naîtra monstre vapin :

Prodigieux et subit tournera
Le grand Tosquan à son lieu plus propin

Beyond the Alps great army will pass,
A little before will be born a vaporous monster:

Suddenly prodigious will become,
The great Toscan in his most propitious place.

Analysis:
delà

vapin

Beyond or on the other side of
To be born. There are many instances where Nostradamus uses the verb to be born in the quatrains, sometimes in its literal sense, and sometimes as an allegory. When taken as an allegory, it usually means to be put in the limelight or again to become famous or infamous by a feat of arms or an infamy
In the french dictionaries (new and old) the word vapin does not exist. There is only one word vapeur (vapor) and its derivatives, and therefore the word vapin could have, logically, something to do with vapor. One of those many monsters of the prophecies, the vaporous monster (le monstre vapin) seems to relate to hurricanes or cyclones. Thus we must find two events that occurred at about the same time, keeping in mind the Alps and the monster.

Interpretation

The french army will cross the Alps.
A short time after the extraordinary rescue
of the english and french troups by the warship 'Cyclone',

History

France, June 22, 1940 In the Alps, the Italians are held in check by the French.
From the pass of Saint-Bernard to the Mediterranean Sea, the italian army has just gone into a last minute offensive. Mussolini needs guarantees in order to obtain concessions from the french at the time of armistice. The italian master plan is to play on the fact that the coming into force of the french-german armistice is subordinated to the signature of a similar convention between France and Italy.
On the shores of Dunkerque, the soldiers
are waiting in line to embark the boats.
The Duce was counting on the fact that the impact of the german victory would weaken the french resistance and give him an easy victory. This is not going to happen in spite of the disproportion of the opposing forces: 450 000 italians are opposed to 185 000 french soldiers. General Orly who commands the army of the Alps, (delà les Alpes grande armée passera)was not caught out: with a tight network of defences and great fire-power, the french ar able to block the offensive of the prince of Piémont...the defences of the Redoute Ruinée which is part of the advanced french position prevent the capture of Bourg-Saint-Maurice by the Italians...The advance of alpine troups catch the Italians unawares. Their numerical superiority does not allow them to have the advantage over the French...since this morning, the army of the Alps repels with success the attack of general Hoepner's 16th corps Panzer. In Voreppe, a column of 150 tanks has been repelled with heavy loss...On the italian side, this tragic encounter seems ill-fated. At the time of negociations, Mussolini will have to moderate his claims.
Translation F.L. -(P. 99) Chronique de la Seconde Guerre Mondiale - Jacques Legrand

According to Nostradamus, the french attack occurred shortly after another major event of the war where a vaporous monster comes in the forefront. The monster (le monstre vapin) is a cyclone or a hurricane or someone or something with an identical name: in the present case, a war vessel called 'The Cyclone'.

In Dunkerque, Operation «Dynamo» saved 338 226 lives: three witnesses relate the event.
Dunkerque, June 4, 1940
...The number of dead or wounded soldiers has now risen to 60 000 in a week, but, thanks to the united efforts of the Royal Navy and the english marines, 338 226 men, of which 110 000 were french, have been evacuated. If the Royal Navy sacrifice themselves relentlessly, the English were not outdone. When the «Sirocco» sinks on the night of May 31, three english boats and one polish come to the rescue. The night before, the «Cyclone» the vaporous monster (le monstre vapin), even though overloaded with french soldiers, had already rescued 158 english soldiers from a dredger that had sunk nearby... June 2, General Alexander informs he has been given the order to embark the last british soldiers. Worse, London's french naval mission that the Admiralty thought of blocking the port right after the departure. It took a direct order from Churchill to let the boarding go on. A promise superbly kept by the marines of the Royal Navy who continued the rescue mission for two days in aid of the french alone.
Thus a french feat of arms is predicted by Nostradamus and pinpointed in time by another feat of arms involving the «Cyclone», That event had occurred a little more than two weeks before.
In the course of history, many armies have crossed the Alps and this is why Nostradamus thought it necessary to link this event to a unique major event of World War II.

Comparative study with the book Nostradamus, Historien et prophte, par J.C. De Fontbrune:

JC applies this quatrain to the First Italian Campaign of Napoleon which could be a correst interpretation if it weren't for the second line of the quatrain 'le monstre vapin - the vaporous monster'which he ties to the passage of Napoleon in Gap. ( 'the monster of Gap'.) without giving any more explanation.
