According to my own method of interpretation,
only french lines in dark blue will be analysed and interpreted
Cinq et quarante degrés ciel brûlera,
Feu approcher de la grande cité neuve:
Instant grande flamme éparse sautera,
Quand on voudra des Normans faire preuve.
Five and forty degrees the sky will burn,
Fire drawing near to the new city
Scattered great flame will explode
When the 'Normans' will be tested
This is a prediction that has not yet occurred. It could be avoided for man is the ultimate builder of his destiny and no prediction is definitely set in stone.

Five and forty degrees. Many interpreters have placed the location of this event at 45° [5 + 40] or again, 40.5 degrees, which could mean anywhere on the planet, as the 45° longitude or latitude is a line that circles the planet. Nostradamus may have veiled the prophecies, but he certainly gave a better clue than 45° or 40.5°.
First of all, we must determine which number is the longitude and which is the latitude. For this purpose, we only have one clue: the conj. et in the sentence, cinq et quarante degrés ciel brûlera. In astrology or astronomy, these coordinates would possibly read as cinq par quarante degrés - five by forty degrees., or a coma would replace the conj. by.. So the conjunction et [and] must be a clue and I believe it is a syncope for est, in english east, one of the 4 cardinal points. Therefore, as a longitude can only be east or west and a latitude north or south, the sentence should read cinq degrés [longitude]est, par 40 degrés latitude - nord ou sud. (five degrees longitude east, by forty degrees latitude -north or south.) You will notice that Nostradamus did not mention a cardinal point for the longitude 40. One clue was enough and I assume that, fearing the watchful eye of the Inquisition, he did not want to make it too easy. Therefore, if I am correct in my assumption of all this, this gives us only two possible locations: 1.-5°longitude east by 40°latitude north. Location 50 to 100 miles east of the Minorca Island, Spain, 2.-5°longitude east by 40°latitude south. Location1000 miles more or less into the Atlantic Ocean, west of Le Cap, South Africa. I choose to eliminate No.2, because an explosion in the ocean and a thousand miles from the shores would not have a great impact on the population and the 'instant grande flamme' would go unnoticed, if it weren't for the satellites we now have. This leaves no.2, the location east of the Minorca island. Unknown to us, many man-made explosions have been triggered in deserted areas or in the sea, but, if it occurs, this one, even though in the sea, could be seen by a great many people. Now, we have the location but not the motive, the reason for the explosion. Let us see if we can find another clue in the other lines of the quatrain. the sky will burn, instant great flame scattered will burst. Here, I analyse that sentence as a whole . In fact, this looks like the description of the explosion of a nuclear device that literally burns the atmosphere, thus producing a huge mushroon that scatters in the sky. Normans. Also called Vikings. The word Viking has been used in space technology and the Viking rockets have made more than 13 trips into space. Also, there may be a syncope in the word Normans, this time the omission of a syllable. So, it could be a syncope of the word Norseman, a plane that was used during the war. There is also The Norman Institute that deals, although I am not totally sure, with nuclear physics. Therefore, it is possible that a test of some kind bearing one of those names may be done in a near or distant future, in a submarine or above the sea. Nostradamus seems to imply that the test would inadvertedly trigger a nuclear explosion. to prove something. In nuclear physics, many tests have to be done in order to prove that the device works properly . That's all I have for the moment. Any new development will be posted here. |

Near the Minorca island, in the Mediterranea, the sky will burst,
With a great explosion that will spread in the atmosphere,
During the test of nuclear warhead -or missile-.
Note: There is always the danger of one of those tests going awry, and many did, in the past decades. Incidentally, there is an american fleet permanently? stationed in the Mediterranean Sea.
