Quatrain IX-2

Du haut du mont Aventin voix ouye
Vuydez, vuydez de tous les deux costez:
Du sang des rouges sera l'ire assomie,
D'Arimin Prato, Columna debotez.



From Mount Aventine a voice is heard:
Listen, Listen, from both sides
Of the blood of the reds will the anger be calmed,
From Rimini-Prato, the Column driven away.

Mount Aventine, one of the seven hills of Rome, near the Tiber.
old french for the verb ouir, to hear. Thus voix entendue, voice heard.
In old french and according to Le Petit Robert dictionary, the word is taken figuratively, as in Vuyder un dit, Faire en sorte qu'une question soit réglée, translated as to see to it that a problem is solved.
In modern french, côtés, translation:sides. In the 16th century, there were no specific grammar rules and this is why the ending of a verb or a word is not always according to french grammar as we know it. Thus, in costez, we find a Z instead of a S.

Interpretation

The voice of the Pope will be heard:
'We hope both sides will find a peaceful solution!

History

The pope visits the devastated area after the bombing of Rome:
[P.65] Rome suffers its first bombing July 19, 1943. This baptism of fire caused important damages in popular suburbs with more than a thousand death casualties. Pope Pius XII [voix ouie] visited the affected areas and, followed by a huge crowd, he went to the San Lorenzo basilica, half-destroyed by the bombing, and recited the De Profundis amongst its ruins.

The first bombing of Rome 1943
Pius XII visits the affected areas.
Here is what the newspapers of the time had to say:

Rome, july 24, (1943)
In the suburbs of the Holy City, still prevails the acrid smell of the fires lighted by the bombings. The pope ]Mount Aventine] beseeched all combattants [de tous les deux côtés], to spare the town. Vatican City has denied formally any news that the Pope has written President Roosevelt to condemn the raids. Radio-Vatican points out: The Pope is impartial. It is not his desire to add to the hate that already exists between the belligerents. However, Rome is unique and the two sides should understand that. [Vuydez vuydez de tous les deux costez]
